Capt Mike Ray's Articles Available

Courtesy of Computer Pilot and Captain Mike Ray, his informative articles are published once a month. The first Sunday of each month, a new article in pdf format is available for download.

The fourth article is now available today. This current article is about the MCP. Like all other articles in this series, this one is written in English and has a lot of illustrations. Captain Ray has written these articles the same way he writes his famous Checkrides, so it's a pleasure to read and is very informative.

HiFi Simulation Website Updated

HiFi, developer of ActiveSky, announces that they have just launched their brand-new website! They have also made some key additions to their development team and have exicting new product plans in place. All the details are available at the new HiFi Simulation Software website.

SimTube.com Launched

The flightsim community can now enjoy a growing array of flight simulation videos organized into categories. You can also freely create video groups, and create their own internal video "pow-wows".

New Caravan 675 Set For FSX

FSX US Landclass From FSGenesis

FSGenesis has released an upgrade to their US National Landclass Project for FSX, bringing it to 2.01. This is a new landclass made from 2001 source data.

Hahnweide Scenery For Condor Gliding Simulator

Carenado Announce FSX Patch For Cherokee

Carenado have announced the release of the FSX patch for the Carenado’s Piper Cherokee. This patch, not only updates that aircraft for FSX, but also improves the quality of the instruments, increases the size of the tail (making it more real) and corrects some smaller issues like the design of the antenna. The patch is available for all the customers who have previously bought the aircraft at Carenado’s site and it is also available at distributor’s web pages. ImagineSim's KLGA La Guardia FS2004

ImagineSim have released their latest airport add-on, KLGA New York, La Guardia for FS2004. LGA is a network hub for the four giant US airlines - American, United, Delta and US, and is the closest airport for breathtaking views toward the sprawling skyscrapers of Manhattan Island.

La Guardia features custom made ground textures and runways, terminal, cargo and hanger buildings rendered to 5cm per pixel scale, smoothly operating jetways that dock with your aircraft's forward door with an interactive docking system to park you right on the mark, taxiways with realistic concrete textures, full airport taxiway and runway signage, 3D approach lighting and full ILS navigation. Also included are hundreds of airport vehicles and ground personnel, aircraft can be found parked at custom textured parking positions, all hangers, cargo and airport auxiliary buildings are also modeled, there is even a perimeter fence.

FS2Crew Updates ATR Edition

A new update for the Flight1 ATR Edition of FS2Crew is now available at the FS2Crew website. This minor fix works to improve memory usage over long flights.

CIM Flight Decks Launches New Website

CIM Flight Decks, part of the Dutch company Cockpit in Motion, has recently launched its new website. Beginning in May, the web shop will be open for the flight simulator hobbyist to obtain what is needed to raise his or her hobby to a higher level in the field of ‘cockpit building’.

With its recent product line, CIM Flight Decks enables the flight simulator hobbyist to obtain various products and components to build a cockpit at competitive prices. These will be products such as panels (MIP, overhead etc.) of among others, the Boeing 737. In the near future CIM Flight Decks will offer two different versions of these panels. The Basic version for the user at home with a smaller budget and a Luxury version for the demanding flight simulator hobbyist.

Besides the Boeing 737 flight deck panels, CIM Flight Decks, located in Drachten, the Netherlands, will supply components and products to build F16 (for simulator hobbyists with military flight interests) and Airbus A320 cockpits. CIM Flight Decks will not only supply panels, seats will also be part of the product line in the future.

At this moment, CIM Flight Decks, part of Cockpit in Motion, (a company building simulators for the semi-professional market), is primarily known for its motion bases. These moving bases are now also available for the flight simulator hobbyist, making it possible to build a simulator on top of a moving base. Weather Maker RX Demo Updated

Calibre Software Solutions announced it has released an updated demo version of its recently released Weather Maker RX for Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

The new demo version now supports users of Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows XP SP2. The features of Weather Maker RX are limited in the demo version and you are limited to flight around San Antonio, Texas. Some WWII Action

Two of the most famous fighters of World War II are now available for you to fly in Flight Simulator X and FS2004.

In fact with two different versions of the Spitfire being included alongside the Hawker Tempest V you are really getting three different aircraft. The Spitfire Mk VB model is a representation of an aircraft from 401 'Canadian' Squadron from May 1942; the Spitfire Mk VB Tropical model is of a 249 Squadron aircraft based at Takali (Malta), March 1943, and the Tempest Mk V is one from 3 Squadron based at Hornchurch in 1944.

FSX SR20/SR22 LSK Issue Fix

The Eaglesoft Team is pleased to announce that theFSX SR20/SR22 LSK Issue Fix is now available! This fix addresses the Avidyne PFD Line Select Keys becoming unusable after FSX completes its 30 minute "security check". Earth Day 2007

Yesterday, April 22nd, was Earth Day. The first Earth Day was organized 37 years ago and took place in Ann Arbor, Michigan and came off with much fanfare as the way to save the environment.

SceneryTech Announces Scenery Addon

SceneryTech is a new company formed by Flight Simulator hobbyists to produce innovate scenery products for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Computer Pilot Digitize Entire Back-Catalogue

The popular flight-simulation magazine Computer Pilot have just announced that they will be releasing their entire back-catalogue in electronic (.pdf) format. Responding to numerous requests from Computer Pilot readers, they are now providing entire year back volumes of Computer Pilot Magazine on CD, all the way back to their first issue in 1995.
With these digitized versions - Called The Computer Pilot Reference Collection- you can have these issues on your PC ready to read in it's 'as published' format, print any part you like or perform instant searches of over 8,000 pages of Computer Pilot Magazines from over the years. Currently available are Volume 10 (2006) and Volume 9 (2005) with the remainder (1996-2004) becoming available within 3 months.
The Computer Pilot Reference Collection Volumes 9 and 10 are available now at a low introductory price, and are available on CD-ROM or to download; both include a free version of Adobe Acrobat to view the '.pdf' files. Russian AI Traffic System Release Aeroflot AI

The Russian AI Traffic System team have just announced the release of their long-awaited package - Aeroflot - Russian Airlines. The package includes 1721 regular and charter flights, and 81 hand-made repaints for all fleet. The AI operate with accurate rotation and realistic time periods for each plane. FriendlyPanels Release Cessna Caravan 675

FriendlyPanels has just announced the release of their Cessna Caravan 675 Executive Edition for FSX. This completely new design for both the Cessna Caravan 675 and the 675 Amphibian advertises features such as a range realistic GPS equipment, three liveries for each aircraft, full moving parts, low impact on frame rates, and complete virtual cockpit and cabin, with a custom 2D panel as well. AlphaSim's AH-1W Super Cobra

Sleek and effective, the Super Cobra is the classic battlefield helicopter, combat-proven in Vietnam and the Gulf. This AlphaSim package pays homage to a US Marines version from the 1991 Gulf conflict. The paintwork depicts a war-worn example, custom sounds add to a movie-like image in the sim.

The FSX version has the full spec with bump mapping, glass bloom and self-shadowing. The flight dynamics are finely tuned and come with a full checklist, reference card and an Operations Manual in .doc format. The VC is detailed and the 2D panel sports a large-format HUD with adjustable brightness.

The pilots can be toggled on/off and the externally mounted missiles and rocket pods can also be removed using a keypress. The chin gun and sensor pod on the nose are animated with joystick input.
